Andy S Alic loves the digital world and the freedom and creativity associated with it. He worked in both industry and academia with a multitude of technologies / platforms / programming languages, from mobile applications in Java ME to GPGPU (General-purpose computing on graphics processing units) C algorithms and HTML/CS/JS web development. He was lucky to have the opportunity of working in software projects from different areas, like bioinformatics, map & geographical data processing, and high performance computing. Currently, Andy works at Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain, where he is a Software Engineer, Big Data Administrator, and Bioinformatician. He also holds the position of Bioinformatician at a Spanish startup in the medical field, where he develops software methods to detect disease-causing mutations in the genome. Andy received a PhD in Computer Science – High Performance Computing/Bioinformatics from Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain..
About the speech
The presentation will be about EUBRA-BIGSEA, a joint the EU-Brazil project focused on Massively Connected Societies. The aim of the project is to provide an integrated, elastic, and dynamic big data cloud platform to address knowledge discovery by tackling data volume, variety, velocity, and veracity issues as well as privacy, security, and QoS (Quality of Service) challenges.
